Relationship Between the Values of Digits & Powers of 10: (5.NBT.1, 5.NBT.2)
LEARNING TARGET
- I can explain the relationship between a digit and how it is both ten times greater than the value of the digit on its right and ten times less the value of the digit on the left.
- I can multiply and divide a digit by powers of 10.
- I can explain the relationship between the value of digits in numbers to the millions down to the thousandths place values.
<--- Look at the number TO THE LEFT.
Look at the 3s. The first 3 is in the HUNDRED THOUSANDS place. If you
hop to the right 3 spaces, you land on the other 3. The second 3 is in
the HUNDREDS place. (Every time you hop one space, you are multiplying
by 10 -- or x10. So if you hop three times it becomes 10x10x10 or
1,000).

**Watch this video, WEDNESDAY NIGHT, September 7th:
This is an EDUCREATIONS video -- you may need the app to make it work.
COPY DOWN ONE OF THE PROBLEMS -- USING THE CORRECT WORDING AND EXPLAIN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VALUE OF THE DIGITS |
Please note they can also write this relationship a THIRD WAY and will be EXPECTED to know this for the assessment:
Way 3 = .01 is 1/1,000 (written in FRACTIONAL FORM) of the value of 10 |

LEARNING TARGET: I can round decimals to the nearest whole number, tenth, or hundredth place
**Watch this video TUESDAY night, September 13th: (This
is the NEW TOPIC we will learn about tomorrow in math class -- rounding
decimals. Please watch this so you are ready for tomorrow's lesson.)

**Watch these videos, WEDNESDAY night, September 14th: --
One video is to review rounding decimals, and the other videos are to
help you review for your final Quick Check on the relationship between
digits in a number and powers of 10. These videos will help you study.
